==== Elliott files brief with ABC
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Nellie Andreeva
"JAG" star David James Elliott has inked a development deal with ABC and Touchstone TV.
After 10 years on the CBS military courtroom drama, Elliott will leave the series at season's end, segueing into the pact with the alphabet network and its sister studio.
Under the one-year deal, ABC and Touchstone TV will develop series projects for the actor to star in or cast him in an existing series prospect.
Elliott also can bring projects to the network; if those projects are picked up, he will serve as a co-producer.
ABC is taking an early start on the next development season by signing some marquee TV stars.
Last week, ABC and Touchstone TV inked a development deal with the star of another veteran CBS series, "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Emmy-winning Patricia Heaton (HR 1/31).
For the past 10 years, Elliott played pilot-turned-lawyer Cmdr. Harmon Rabb on "JAG," Donald Bellisario's venerable drama, which, after a rocky start on NBC, has enjoyed a long, successful run on CBS and has spawned the hit spinoff "NCIS."
The role earned the actor a TV Guide Award in 1995.
No decision on the future of "JAG" will be made until late spring but in anticipation of a possible departure by Elliott, the show's creator, Bellisario, is introducing a new character, Navy Lt. Vukovic, a JAG attorney.
Chris Beetem (CBS' "As the World Turns"), who will play Vukovic, will make his debut as a series regular in an episode set in San Diego slated to air Feb. 18.
Elliott is repped by manager Bob McGowan of McGowan Management, UTA and attorney Cliff Gilbert-Lurie.

Not sure what it all means and I am not going to speculate. I am just passing on info so you can stay informed. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Here it is...
*****One of the first decisions Leslie Moonves made when he came to CBS was to pick up "JAG""JAG" from NBC, which had canceled the military drama because it didn't skew young. Now, almost a decade later, Moonves will soon have to decide whether to say goodbye to the show.
Speculation about the skeinskein's future is heating up as the season heads into the homestretch, particularly in the wake of news Thursday that series David James Elliott has inked a talent holding deal with ABC and Touchstone TelevisionTouchstone Television. His "JAG" deal was set to expire in May.
While there's been some industry scuttlebutt suggesting CBS may be ready to serve up a final salute, series creator Donald Bellisario -- as well as producer Paramount Network TV -- are working overtime to make sure that doesn't happen.
Later this month, former "As the World Turns" hunk Chris Beetem will join the show's cast as a brash new lawyer who shakes up the "JAG" team -- and, with Elliott potentially exiting, Beetem could fill Elliott's spot. Two other recurring characters have also been added in recent months.
What's more, execs at ParPar are actively looking at other ways to keep the franchise vital, much the way NBC has kept "Law & Order""Law & Order" a hit for over a decade.
Bellisario has already reinvented "JAG" several times during its two-net run. Spinoff "NCIS," meanwhile, is a major hit on Tuesday nights.
Ratingswise, "JAG" is doing OK numbers on Friday night -- no thanks to lead-in "Joan of Arcadia," which has taken a major dive this season. And while it's more expensive than a younger show, insiders suggest budget concerns won't be a key part of the Eye's decision.
In the end, it's expected Moonves will hold off making a decision until May, when he and CBS Entertainment prexyprexy Nina Tassler look at all of the net's new development and weigh it against "JAG's" creative performance and ratings.
CBS and Par declined comment.
ABC and Touchstone confirmed the Elliott deal late Thursday and said the one-year pactpact calls for the actor to co-produce any projects he stars in.
=======
